I never thought I’d write, but...never say never.

7/31/2009

So here we are, at my first blog. I didn’t ever think I would blog, but something finally hit me. It dawned on me that this is another way for people to know more about me (and for my family to keep tabs on me in yet another way:)). I know, wow, what a concept, eh? I also feel it’s a good way to share knowledge I have about certain subjects that I get asked about all the time, like fitness and nutrition. Who knows...maybe it’ll be good for me too! I’m always looking for ways to grow and contribute, and this seems like a perfect opportunity. Change is always good.

I’m sitting in the Calgary International Airport right now, waiting for my connecting flight to Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada. I’m heading to my home town of Peace River to see my family. I’ve been looking forward to this trip for awhile. I don’t make it back to Alberta much so it’s very exciting when I get to take a trip back.

This trip is extra special (almost like Christmas!) because I’ll get to see so many family members all at once...usually it’s just a handful here or there. I’m going on a wagon trail ride with most of my Dad’s side of the family and celebrating my Grandma’s 85th birthday and my Great Uncle Leo’s 80th birthday. We’re also going to a rodeo for the weekend where I’ll also get to see most of my Mom’s side of the family. I am so excited to get back to my small town girl roots and relax away from the city. Living in Manhattan gets so crazy and hectic, it’s easy to forget what it’s like outside of the skyscraper boundaries...but when I am reminded of life on the other side...that makes me just as happy.

It’s funny how when you get older you really start to appreciate your family so much more than when you were a young punk--well I do anyway. Nowadays it’s really hard for me to go home and then leave again to go back to NYC. I really feel like I’m missing out on a lot...but I have to follow my spirit and that means I have to nurture the artist in me. I have a wonderful family and they make me feel very loved and supported, so that helps tremendously with the pursuit of my dreams. One day soon I’ll be able to jet back and forth so much my parents will get sick of me! That is the day I REALLY look forward to in my life.

I can’t wait to visit with everyone, catch some rays, go out on the boat, wear my cowboy boots, sit around a fire and enjoy everything around me that made me, me. Haha, oh man, I’m getting all choked up writing this! I feel like I’m writing in my diary! Is this what blogging is supposed to be like?
